Privacy & Cookies
What this site stores, why, how long for, and how to have it removed. It is written to be read rather than to be survived, and it describes what the code actually does.
The short version
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Analytics stays switched off until you switch it on. Nothing from Google runs before you decide.
- One first-party cookie measures your visit to this site whether or not you accept anything. It cannot see any other site, and it is explained in full below.
- If you apply for a role, we keep what you submitted so we can reply to you — including the things you typed that did not work.
- You can have any of it removed. Email privacy@madebyfareast.com.
Who we are
Far East Studios is the controller of the data described here — we decide what is collected and why. For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete what we hold, write to privacy@madebyfareast.com and a person will answer.
When you are just reading the site
Our web server keeps ordinary request logs, as every web server does. Beyond that, two things measure your visit, and they are not the same thing.
Measuring your visit — on by default, and here is why
The careers page carries a hiring challenge, and the only way to know whether it is fair is to know how long it takes people to solve. That measurement needs to start when you arrive on the site, not when you reach the challenge — somebody who read the role on Monday and solved it on Tuesday took a day and a half, and only your browser knows that.
So we store two random identifiers in your browser and a cookie that carries them, and we record which pages you read and when. It is first-party only: it is never sent to anyone else, never combined with data from anywhere, and cannot see a single other website you visit. It is not used to advertise to you and it is not used to build a profile of you.
This runs without asking because it is what the law calls audience measurement — limited to our own site, for our own use, and told to you plainly, which is what this section is. If you would rather it did not, clearing this site’s cookies and storage removes it, and emailing us has the same effect on the records already kept.
Analytics — off until you accept
We load Google Tag Manager, which carries Google Analytics. It is held in a denied state from the first line of every page and sets nothing until you accept it in the cookie banner. If you accept and change your mind, reopening the banner and withdrawing removes its cookies.
When you apply for a role
The application on /careers/ is a challenge before it is a form. To run it and to reply to you we record: the email address you submit, the key you submitted, including the ones that were wrong, the key your machine should have had, your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string, and the timings of each step.
The wrong answers are kept deliberately, and it is fair that you know that. They are how we tell a challenge that is hard from one that is broken — a run of near-misses means something different from a run of blank guesses. They are read to improve the challenge and to recognise a shared or borrowed key, never to judge you for a typo.
Two other companies are involved at that moment: Google reCAPTCHA, which checks that the submission came from a person and receives your IP and browser information to do it, and Resend, which delivers the confirmation email and therefore receives your address. Neither is given anything else, and the studio uses no other processors for this.

How long we keep it
- Measurement records — the pages you read, the timings, the IP and browser recorded with them — up to 13 months.
- Applications — your address and what you submitted — for as long as the conversation is live, and up to 12 months after it ends, so we can come back to you if a role reopens. Ask us and it goes sooner.
- Your cookie choice — 182 days, after which the banner asks again.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it, or ask for it in a portable form. We extend these to everyone who writes to us, wherever you are, rather than checking which country you are in first.
Write to privacy@madebyfareast.com. We will answer within 30 days, and there is nothing to pay. If you are not satisfied with how we handled it, you are entitled to complain to your national data protection authority.
Changes
When what we collect changes, this page changes in the same breath. The date at the top is when it was last true.
